Freshman year cumulative (and a little extra)

L.
So in the past three years, about as much stuff as possible could've changed:
- A family crisis made me turn to the idea of boarding school
- I finally convinced my mom that it was okay if I went away to school - took two years!
- Went to Japan
- My parents moved to Korea
- Lived with someone else for the first time!
- Had to work so hard to just get... B's
- Ran cross country for the first time ever!
- Made varsity swimming
- First time in a 16 hour plane
- Now am editor of three things at school!
- Went to an all girl's school... Gasp!
- 4 cumulative feet of snow in a three month period - snow up to my waist!
- Being buried theoretically in the library with work.
Just a smidgeon of stuff that's happened recently - I can't believe it sometimes!

The Magic of Roommates

L.
Okay, so it's not really magic. The title was to try to entice you into thinking that a) going to boarding school and b) having a roommate is all glitter, sparkles, unicorns and sugar and spice.
LIES.
So maybe I'm just cynical, but I'm definitely telling the truth: If you ever go to boarding school, or even when you board at college, learn to lower your expectations on your roommate(s).
Ultimately, if you're my roommate and you:
a) are neat.
b) are quiet.
c) listen to decent music.
2c) listen to your bad music with headphones.
3) keep your stuff with your stuff...
Then I'm okay with you.
That being said, two new girl roommates next year: Follow the commandments I'll soon be making and we'll get along.

Feeling a Throwback.

Slowing, but surely Freshman year is coming to a close.
Praise the lord.
In middle school this was a very bitter sweet situation.
Now it's just sweet
I can't wait.
Today a friend and I were talking about everything that we did this year.
-Went to the public school in my town
-Left all of my friends from my small private middle school
-Played field hockey for the fist time
-Psyched a super cool senior on the Varsity FH team
-Formed a great bond with my English teacher, this opened up a lot of doors for me
-Entered a writing contest
-Discovered my love for art, something I want to pursue for the rest of my high school career
-Kept in touch with my friends from middle school
-Made friends with my old friends, friends. Ha. (Liv)
-Ski team!
-Spent the majority of my weekends skiing in Vermont or visiting my uncles in NYC
-Had a total of 14 snow days! Ask me how I feel about those in June
-Shadowed the director of the Spring musical
-As spring rolled around, I expanded my Prep-drobe (Preppy Wardrobe)
This is my dad and I on my first day of high school.
So froshy.
Field hockey stick and all.

Quality Time.

Good night, scratch that. Great night.
Kicked off the evening with Margaret (top).
We grabbed a slice of pizza at a local place.
Then went to go see Liv aka L. in The Tempest.
Played the beautiful godess Iris.
Other then her second degree burn from the evil curling iron. The performance was flawless.
The three off us spent the night at my house.
Lots of laughs.
Ha.
We discussed our summer plans. (Counting down the days)
It was a eventful evening!
 Quick outfit of the evening.
Short Sleeve White Gap Button Down
Navy Blue Mens J. Crew V-Neck Thin Sweater
Patterned J. Crew Skirt (Seen before on Michelle Obama)
Gold Jack Rodgers
Gold Michael Kors Watch
Gold Bangles
Pearl J. Crew Bracelet
Gold J.Crew Starfish Earring
Went for a GOLD look.

Technology has taken over our friendship.

Liv & Annie

A little photo adventure.
L + A

Veggie.

For three, almost four years now I have been a strict pescatarian (I don't eat land animals, only aquatic)Making the decision to stop eating meat came from a series of sources. (Books, disturbing videos I forced myself to watch on peta.org, documentaries). But just recently I finished reading the book Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer. Reading this book made me think twice about eating fish. I wasn't as educated in the treatment and cleanliness of fish. As well as the health concerns. Not only has this book changed the way I feel about fish, but all food in general.

Would love to hear what books have impacted other bloggers!

Some Sperry Talk

The number of new Sperry's on the market is rather troublesome - in my own opinion. Some are just too sparkly, try too hard, or are just out there.

So to begin, here are the two pairs I own:

My roommate, on the other hand, owns the pair of metallic ones:
As you can see, I prefer the classic ones over the glammed up ones - my dad grew up with boatshoes, and so I grow up with boatshoes. Minus the sequins. Or glitter. Or metallics.
What do you guys think?

Far flung summer plans

L.
Where does a well traveled prep go on holiday?
After the biology SAT II Subject Test, that I have to stay an extra day for, I'm kicking it back with Annie's and my friend Margaret, who'll drive me to the airport the next day. I fly out of White Plains - it's super easy, and super fast. I'll land in Orlando, spend a week in the 'burbs with my grandparents (cooking, laying out at his pool, running and some shopping! And beaching!), and then drive up home to Tallahassee to see all of my friends! I'll drive back down from Tallahassee, spend some time in Orlando with my aunt Molly and my grandparents, and then kick it back up to Seoul for two  months. I plan on running, swimming, learning French and Korean, and checking out some great places to shop and eat. I can't wait! Quality time with the family is what I'm all about. Then I'll fly back to Orlando, spend another week in the sun, and then fly to Boston, spending a week with my aunt, and then drive back to school.
I wish I could lie and say I wasn't counting down the days until freedom - but, alas, I totally am.
Happy exams!
Liv

Day to day.

My week (Monday through Friday) is actually rather boring, occasionally something of interest will happen, lets empathize occasionally.

6:00 AM- Wake up, brush teeth, shower, get dressed, do makeup and straighten my hair a bit.

6:47 AM- Run down stairs for some cereal and OJ. Check the social networks while I chat with my mom a bit.
7:00 AM- Leave for school. Dad drops me off and I just make it. Head to my locker, gab with some friends, throw a few books into my LongChamp and off I go.

9:55 AM- Already done with History, Algebra and Spanish.

10:00-11:55 AM- Drawing and Painting with some of my favorite senior girls. Currently working on a very cool surrealism piece. Then to my favorite academic class, English.

NOON- Lunch, today I had a Iced Tea and California Roll.

12:30 PM- Science..a very grim 50 minutes. Then the rest of the day is free, until..

2:05 PM- Head to rehearsal for the musical.

3:10- Home. Crack a book or two. Then go for a run.

4:30- The rest of my night consists of studying, dinner and possibly some Glee. In bed by 10:30.

A Day in the Life of L

L.
So the idea was that today I'd take an outfit of the day (OFTD) picture - but I had to cram a little bit for a latin quiz, and that never happened.
SO, instead, here's a little copy of my daily schedule - give or take the classes:
6:45 - wake up; Andie's alarm usually doesn't wake me up the first time, but it still goes off.
7:00 - actually crawl out of  bed, snap open my shades - admire the... gray clouds? Ah, spring in New England IS actually rainy. Open my computer, check Facebook for a little bit before I glance at the clock and realize it's way too late!
7:20 - I'm showered, dressed, teeth brushed and face washed. I usually don't bother to put makeup on - the joys of an all girl's school, but if the weather's nice I'll  put some effort into actually dressing well. (You'll find some more on dressing in a few days - I promise.) Off to breakfast if my bag's packed - I usually stash it downstairs in Red Hall on my way to breakfast.
7:35 - The bell rings for assembly; every morning for breakfast I have a bowl of cereal and a banana or orange, and a cup of juice. I love the muffins here - they're actually pretty terrible for you, so I try to stay away from them, except on Wednesdays, when they make banana chocolate chip. To die for.
7:53 - Assembly's just finished; we go over the daily announcements, and people stand up and say things like times for club meetings, stuff like that. I head to first period if I have a class, and if not I'll go back to my room and do a little homework for the next day.
10:00 - The bell rings for break! I've just had 3 classes, give or take my frees; they provide snack and we've got 15 minutes to relax and switch out books and bags.
11:55 - The bell rings for lunch! I've had two classes - one that's 40 minutes, one that's 60 - and we all head down to lunch. The food's usually pretty decent - somehow they make it all look so appetizing though, and not in a good way. I usually stick to a good amount of salad and I absolutely adore it when they have grilled chicken breasts.
1:17 - I'm out of classes for the day! I'm free until 2:10, and that's when I have Elements of Art, which is just a basic arts class. Right now I'm doing a monochromatic bike painting, and photos are being developed for our own self portraits which are to be done with pencils and value scales.
2:10 - Arts until 3:30!
3:30 - I run three or four miles; I run cross country in the fall and swim in the winter, so spring's my free sport. I would row if it was offered, but since it's not, I do independent running with a few other girls. I love having some free time.
5:30 - Dinner time! The food quality generally decreases by spring term, so any time I can get out to a day student's house for dinner I do and any time I can order is a plus too.
7:10 - Study hall starts; it's held in a huge room with all the other sophomores and freshman. I try to keep it to  only two other subjects worth of homework to do, so I can devote 50 minutes to each. Maybe I'm a bit too studious, but I definitely feel like it works. As long as I can stay off Skype, I'm set. Also, at 7 Facebook turns off, so there's zero distraction.
9:00 - Study hall's out, and we all rush to the dorm parent's apartment for some snacks. My dorm parent makes a killer mexican dip with cream cheese, salsa and cheese, thrown into an oven until it's bubbling hot and delicious. Eaten with tortilla chips, it's enough to fight over. And we definitely do.
10:00 - I've been skyping with friends and getting ready for bed, so by 10 I'm checked in and usually in my room, finishing up conversations or surfing Flickr.
10:30 - Lights out! In room was 10:15; my proctor comes in and says goodnights, and usually we chat a little bit before she shuts the door and I continue my phone conversation! I'll talk on the phone until around 10:45, and I'm asleep every night by 11. Even though I get 8 hours of sleep, it always feels like it's never enough.
And then the day starts all over again. It's jam packed - especially in winter term, when I have night practice from 7 to 9:30 - but now I don't know what to do with myself when I've got no schedule!
Back to study hall!

L.

The above picture is me at the imperial palace in Seoul in July of 2011.
Hey there! I'm Liv and I'm the prep school counterpart to Annie. I love my all girl's boarding school, having been raised in the south, and good old artsy stuff like photography and design. I row, run and swim varsity for my school, and I can be charmed by a correct use of grammar. Among my other objects of adoration, I love living overseas in South Korea, exploring a place through running it, and good food and coffee. You can find me by chatting with me on Skype (the.olivia.burns), email (livandannie@yahoo.com) and through some good old flickr stalkage - by clicking here! See you there! x

A.

Hello. I’m Annie, the yin to Liv’s yang on this blog adventure of ours. 15 year old that is trying to make the most of this small town lifestyle. Born and raised in Connecticut, with the dream to one day attend college and then spend my adulthood in New York City. Liv and I share a love for all things artistic and preppy. Making lists and keeping organized are a huge part of my persona. Skiing, traveling, show tunes, Bobbi Brown, prep school boys are only a few of my odd obsessions. Prep on. A.
